What the $25 tunnel wash is doing to your paint
Run your fingertips across your hood after a highway month. That grit is bonded iron from brake dust, and a tunnel's spinning brushes drag it across your clear coat at speed, carving the spiderweb swirls you see under carpark lights.
Hand detailing works the opposite way. Iron remover dissolves the bonded stuff chemically, clay lifts what's left, and a two bucket wash means the mitt never carries yesterday's grit back onto today's paint.
The tunnel pass and a standing slot cost about the same per month. One of them scratches a little every visit and never opens a door. The other one keeps your interior human and your clear coat flat. That's the whole comparison.
