THE YARD — WHO YOU’RE HIRING FROM

THE YARD BEHIND THE CARD.

Owner-run. One gate, one number, four people who know every machine by its first name — which is a SKU, because this is a yard, not a call centre.

GATE 2 AT KNOCK-OFF — THE LIGHTING TOWER IS PWR-LT6, $120/DAY.

01 / THE CREW

FOUR PEOPLE. NO EXTENSIONS TO DIAL.

The whole site is a rate card, so the crew gets spec plates too. Whoever answers can quote every machine on the card without putting you on hold.

  • OWNER · ANSWERS THE PHONE

    DALE PRENTISS

    23 YEARS ON THE TOOLS

Sets the rates, signs the checks, picks up before the third ring. If Dale says it's on the yard, it's on the yard.

  • BOOKINGS + ACCOUNTS

    SONIA MARSH

    EVERY QUOTE, ONE PAGE

Runs the two-working-hour confirm window and the trade invoices. One invoice a month, one line per machine.

  • FITTER · THE SERVICE BAY

    FERG TALBOT

    EVERY MACHINE, EVERY RETURN

Greases, services and signs the 12-point gate check. Nothing leaves the gate without Ferg's tag on the key.

  • DELIVERY · THE FLOAT

    RAY OKAFOR

ZONE A IN THE MORNING RUN

Drives the float, does the tie-downs, walks the machine off on your site — not at the kerb.

EVERY FIRST HIRE STARTS HERE — KEYS, WALKTHROUGH, HANDSHAKE.

02 / THE HANDOVER

KEYS AT THE GATE, NOT OVER A COUNTER.

First hire of any machine comes with a walkthrough — controls, shutdown, the do-not-dos — from whoever serviced it, not a laminated card. Five minutes that save a phone call from the bottom of a trench.

Delivery hires get the same walkthrough on your site. Ray doesn’t leave until the machine starts, swings and stops for you, not just for him.

03 / THE GATE CHECK

THE 12-POINT GATE CHECK.

Every machine, before every hire — signed by the fitter who did it, tagged on the key. If a machine can’t pass, it doesn’t go out, even on a Friday.
