The Club
Quiet rooms, bright silver.
The clubhouse has been rebuilt twice and refurnished never, or so the members like to say. What it keeps is a standard: of turf, of table, of company.

The Lounge
The trophy room at seven
One lamp, two chairs, and ninety-four names in gold leaf. The room asks nothing of you except a lowered voice, and gives back the whole history of the club in silver.
The House
Kept by hand, daily
The silver is polished every Thursday, the boards re-gilded every decade, the bar stocked to the committee's book and nobody else's. The house staff hold the same standard the greenkeepers do; it is simply indoors.
Alden Rooke, Club Steward since 1989

The Honours Board
The honours board, in full
Founded 1924, first Cup 1931, and a line for every season since. The board below is abridged for the page; the room holds the rest.

The Dining Room
Dinner under the boards
The kitchen keeps a short menu and a long cellar. Tables look onto the eighteenth, the last light does the decorating, and the loudest thing in the room should be the recounting of the round.
BREAKFAST DAILY · DINNER WED TO SAT

Occasions
The terrace, on loan
A handful of weekends each year, the club opens the terrace and dining room to weddings and private dinners for non-members. One long table under the festoon lights, the course going blue below, the house staff doing what they do every other night of the year.
