An interior studio that works material first

Rooms built from limewash, linen, and low afternoon light.

Harlowe & Voss is the interior studio of principal designer Marta Voss. Every house begins as a scheme: materials pinned to the board, light measured, colour earned.

What a room is really made of

Before a room is anything else, it is a handful of materials on the bench. We choose these first, then the colour is whatever the materials give back in the light. Nothing is painted on afterward.

Four houses

Rooms, by the feeling they keep

Not decorated to a look, but built to a feeling. Each house is held to the materials and the light the rooms already had.

The Garnet House living room: an oxblood leather chair on limewash plaster, fumed oak floor

A room that warms as the sun drops

The Garnet House

Full house · 2024

A full house held to oxblood leather and fumed oak, warmed with limewash and a boucle the colour of raw wool. The garnet reads only where the afternoon sun lands on it.

A room the morning does the work in

Ferry Street

Apartment · 2025

A small apartment kept pale: flax linen, bone plaster, and unlacquered brass left to darken at the edges. The morning light does most of the decorating.

The Long Gallery: a long fumed-oak floor, chalk-white walls, a madder-red wool runner

A room kept quiet for the art

The Long Gallery

Gallery wing · 2023

A long room floored in fumed oak, walls in chalk white, one wool runner dyed madder red. The art hangs on iron black; the scheme stays quiet so the room can be loud.

Whitstone Barn

The barn stayed a barn: honed limestone underfoot, oak beams overhead, moss wool for warmth. Read it in full alongside the others.

On the board

How a room comes together

One house, four stages. Nothing is ordered until the whole scheme is agreed on the board.

  1. 01

    The walkthrough

We spend a morning in the rooms, measuring the light and the way you already live. Nothing is drawn yet.

  2. 02

    The board

Materials come back to the studio and onto the board: limewash, oak, a bolt of linen, one stone. The scheme is agreed before a single order goes out.

  3. 03

    The making

The FF&E schedule goes to the fourteen trades we work with by name. We hold the drawings, the joinery, and every delivery date.

  4. 04

    Install week

The house comes together in one concentrated week. We hang, place, and style, then hand the finished rooms back to you.
