Trattoria La Tovaglia

The menus

Typed daily, priced on the page

Pranzo is short because you have somewhere to be. Cena is longer because you do not. Sunday has no menu at all, and it is the best day we do.

What the chalkboard says this week

Si scrive col gesso
A slice of dolce and an espresso on the marble counter.

Sunday, no menu

The kitchen decides at the market on Sunday morning. Antipasti land when you sit, the pasta is always the ragu, the secondo is whatever made Franco smile at six, and dolce arrives with coffee whether you ordered it or not.

The house red

There is no list. There is a carafe, six-sided tumblers, and a red Franco chooses once a year after a long argument. It has never once been sent back.

Cooking around you

Gluten-free pasta is on the stove every day and the ragu never sees flour. Tell Lucia when you book, so the kitchen cooks instead of improvises.

Tagliatelle al ragu on an enamel plate, straw paper underneath.

It is typed, not printed, because it changes when the market changes. Six things at lunch, a few more at night, and the page on the table is the same page you see here.
