PFAS, plainly
What the forever-chemical headlines mean at your tap, and when the honest first step is a lab test, not a filter.
Water filtration · Installed & serviced · Harwood
Stonewell tests your water at your own tap, hands you the readings in writing and prices every system on this site. If your water is already fine, we will be the ones to tell you.
The test takes 45 minutes and we leave when it is done.
Your readings go on paper. You keep them, buy or not.
Every system we sell is priced on this site.
No same-day discounts. Today's price is next month's price.

Three waters
Mains, rainwater and bore water fail in different ways, so the right system starts with the supply, not the brochure. Pick your water and follow its path.
Treated at the plant, then sent a long way through old pipes. Usually chlorine taste, hardness and sediment. The fix is a whole-home rail, sized after a bench test.
THE SYSTEM PATH →Whatever lands on the roof ends up in the tank. Leaf litter, dust and the occasional visitor. Filtration plus UV makes it water you can pour for guests.
THE SYSTEM PATH →Groundwater carries the ground with it. Iron stains, hardness and smell vary paddock by paddock, so a bore rail is built from the readings, never off the shelf.
THE SYSTEM PATH →The local supply
Supplies differ street by street. Some towns disinfect with chlorine, some with chloramine, and the two are removed differently. Hardness swings with the catchment. A system chosen before measuring is a guess with an invoice.
We keep a running bench file on the supplies we work in. The panel here is the shape of it. Yours is filled in on the day, from your tap, not from a database.
| SOURCE | Hillcrest reservoir |
| DISINFECTANT | Chloramine |
| HARDNESS | 134 mg/L · hard |
| pH AT THE TAP | 7.6 |
Sample panel for the template. On a real visit these lines are your street's readings, written on the certificate you keep.
The range
The industry hides its prices until a rep is on your couch. We publish ours and let the ladder speak. Every install is quoted exactly after the test; the from-price is where it starts, not where it creeps.
| System | What it is for | Installed, from |
|---|---|---|
| Whole-home | Sediment, chlorine and taste, at every tap | from $2,450 |
| Under-sink RO | Drinking water polished to the glass | from $640 |
| Rainwater UV | Tank water made safe for the kitchen | from $1,850 |
| Softening | Scale off the glass, the kettle and the coil | from $1,690 |
| Commercial | Espresso, clinics and gyms, to a written spec | from $1,200 |
From-prices are sample data for the template and include standard installation by a licensed plumber.
Before & after
Every install ends the way it began: with the meter on the bench. The commissioning readings go on your certificate next to the day-one numbers, so the difference is a figure you can hold, not a feeling you were sold.
Hardness out of the shower and off the glass. Sample reading from a softener install.
Chlorine taste gone at every tap. Sample reading from a whole-home rail.
Cloudiness settled to clear. Sample reading from a bore-water rail.
The free water test
Kitchen tap, tank outlet or bore head. The water we test is the water you drink, drawn in front of you.
Hardness, chlorine, pH and clarity, read from the colour comparator on your own bench. You watch the cells settle.
Every reading is written against the guideline value and signed. The certificate stays on your fridge, not in our van.
If the numbers say your water is fine, we say so and wash the glassware. If they do not, you already know what each system costs.

The test takes 45 minutes and we leave when it is done.
Your readings go on paper. You keep them, buy or not.

What changes
The itch after bath time settled inside a fortnight. We should have measured years ago.
K.R. · softener household
The pool smell is gone. Tea finally tastes like the tea, not the tap.
J.M. · whole-home rail
The shower screen stays clear between cleans and the kettle stopped crunching.
P.A. · softener household
We pour tank water for visitors now without the speech about where it came from.
L. & D.F. · rainwater UV
Aftercare
Cartridges are the quiet half of clean water. We keep your system's cadence on file, post the reminder before it is due and stock every cartridge we have ever installed.
A whole-home rail runs about $180 a year in cartridges at published prices. The calendar shows a typical cadence; yours is set at commissioning.
SERVICE PLANS & AFTERCARESediment at six months, sediment and carbon at twelve. The strip above is a typical year; your cadence is written at commissioning.

WF-01
What the forever-chemical headlines mean at your tap, and when the honest first step is a lab test, not a filter.
WF-02
Two disinfectants, one habit of ruining tea. Why the difference decides which carbon your rail needs.
WF-03
What 134 mg/L actually does to a kettle, a shower screen and a hot-water service, worked as arithmetic.
WF-04
First-flush, tank hygiene and UV sizing: the short course on drinking the roof with confidence.
The next step is a measurement
One visit, 45 minutes, readings in writing and prices already on the site. The covenant is signed before we ring the bell.
