Connect a domain you already own

Agree the DNS change for your hosted site, preserve your email settings and keep the domain registered in your name.

Contact us to arrange the domain connection for your hosted site. The registration stays in your name at your registrar. If you are moving a live website, agree the cutover before changing its records.

The steps#

  1. Tell us which domain and hosted site you want to connect.
  2. We confirm the required DNS records and the order to add them. Your dashboard may show these instructions for a site already set up for domain connections.
  3. Complete any ownership or certificate validation before directing visitors to the new site.
  4. Make the agreed website DNS change at your registrar. Keep the existing email records in place.
  5. Check the live address and its secure connection with us. DNS propagation and certificate issuance determine when the change is ready.

What we need from you#

Two things, and neither is a password.

  • The domain name itself.
  • Access to its DNS settings at whichever registrar holds it. That is you, or whoever manages it for you.
  • We never ask for your registrar login. If anyone does, it is not us.

Your email keeps working#

This is the part people are right to worry about.

  • Keep your existing email records. A website move should preserve the records that route and authenticate your mail.
  • Tell us who hosts your email, so the record set can be checked before the cutover.
  • Test incoming and outgoing mail after the change, along with the website.

Who holds the registration#

Nothing about ownership changes.

  • It stays in your name, at your registrar.
  • We never hold it, and we never become the registrant.
  • You renew it, on your card, on your schedule.

If you do not have a domain yet#

Three honest options.

  • Register it wherever you like and bring it here. Any registrar works.
  • For a custom build, confirm the domain registration cost on your quote. Registration and renewal are separate costs.
  • Check current availability on Hosting and Domains. A hosting plan does not include domain registration or make a domain-purchase service available by itself.
